Native Nations – Tracing Indigenous Footsteps

Purpose

Native Nations – Tracing Indigenous Footsteps is a pioneering initiative committed to promoting regenerative and Indigenous tourism.

Objective

Native Nations – Tracing Indigenous Footsteps aims to provide Indigenous youth from remote areas with the opportunity to travel internationally, connect with other Indigenous youth and cultures, and embark on a journey of healing and reconnection.

Through their journey of healing and reconnection to culture, ancient traditions, customs, practises and truthful historical storytelling, the initiative builds a global network of regenerative Indigenous tourism trails for their international visitors to follow, which are designed to give back and uplift people, place, communities and environment as they travel.

Impact

In July 2024 a Tri Nations Exchange programme was launched. From a rigorous application process, 11 youth were chosen to participate.

The Exchange aims to foster meaningful connections between Indigenous youth from Queensland (Australia), British Columbia (Canada), and Aotearoa (New Zealand), while also promoting responsible tourism and community empowerment. This monumental initiative, uniting three Indigenous nations, signifies the power of collaboration in the tourism industry and among Indigenous cultures that uphold balance, respect, and harmony with spirit, nature, and all living beings.

After the Exchange, the Native Nations initiative supports the youth in finding pathways into tourism, environmental and youth or community spaces.

TreadRight’s contribution will go towards accommodation, meals, passports, activities, fuel and transport, for the Exchange.

UN GLOBAL GOALS

Native Nations – Tracing Indigenous Footsteps contribute to reducing social inequalities and to sustaining cities and communities by providing training, support and economic opportunities to underrepresented youth, while preserving local culture and heritage.
